Finding Option Codes

Where do I find the Codes?

For most models, Porsche provides two copies of the Option Code list: the first is found fixed to the underside of the bonnet/hood; the second is fixed to the inside cover of the warranty manual.

What if the stickers are missing?

If there are no stickers fixed to your car (or a prospective purchase) you can usually obtain a copy of the vehicle's 'Cardex' from your national importer; the Cardex provides a range of information about the car including option, paint and other codes.

To obtain the Cardex you will need to provide the vehicle's VIN (usually located on the left hand windscreen post). The meaning of the VIN characters is explained in the Porsche VIN Decoder section

Overview of Internal Colour Codes

Porsche internal color codes can be something of a nightmare! The full color spec for a car is contained in a five digit reference in the vehicle identification label but Porsche do not publish a breakdown of its makeup.

The fully decoded data can only be obtained from the Porsche importer for your geography (and then it will only be given to the registered owner of the vehicle).

The sections in the internal color page list the known color codes for basic colors and material mixtures. Sometimes the same color is given two or more codes and this usually indicates a change of paint supplier; the same color from different paint suppliers may not match.

Overview of Option Codes

Anyone visiting the 911 assembly plant at Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart will notice that no two cars appear the same. There are, of course, multiple models (Carrera, Carrera 4, 4S, targa, cabriolet, turbo, turbo cabriolet, GT3, GT2...) in a dazzling array of colors, but it is the variety of customer choice options that make it almost impossible to spot two the same.

Many manufacturers offer a choice of transmission, or wheels or brake types but only Porsche seem to bewilder purchasers with their option lists (colored stitching to seats, carbon fibre trims to door shuts, Porsche crest on tiptronic lever being brief examples of the level of detail that Porsche offer).

The sections in this categoryidentify some of the option available since they were codified in 1973 (known then as M series; in 2004 the list was renamed I series); these need to be read alongside the color, trim and other codes listed elsewhere in PorscheOptions.

And don't think it stops there!Porsche Exclusive will deliver pretty much any modification to the look or performance of a Porsche; rumor has it that the idea sprang from a request by a customer to have three 356s delivered in the color to match his daughter's bridesmaid's dresses at her forthcoming wedding.

Overview of “Exclusive” Program

Porsche Exclusive is a personalization program designed to deliver a Porsche car that is 'as exclusive as your fingerprint' (to quote the Porsche web site).

The Exclusive Program will deliver a car that is special: visually and technically; inside and out; and, of course, this is from the factory with the customary Porsche attention to detail and quality.

It is difficult to describe fully the breadth of personalization available form the Exclusive Program - you really need to visit the factory and see some of the Exclusive cars in preparation. The Options Codes listed in this category will give you some idea of the choice...

But don't forget: just because no-one else has thought of it yet, does not mean an option is not possible (at a price...)
